If the ECF gave me the funding, I would run this event at Golders Green over two weekends, with 100 players at the venue each time.
You might have to promise not to clash with 4NCL weekends and SCCU county matches. One can have too much of a good thing.

I expect the following to happen:
"I" is presumably the British Rapidplay's in-house epidemiologist. Do we have a name?
Hi Nick.
Something you might not like has appeared on the Yorkshire Chess Association website regards to the cancellation of the British Rapidplay. Worth a read.
Steve Mann has backed Brent Kitson on the cancellation and posted his strong views aswell including about a coach holiday to Dunoon.
Link in case you want to read the Dunoon bit
The organisers of the popular British Rapidplay, run by, amongst others, Brent Kitson and Stephen Burton, had to cancel the 2019 event due to Covid, and have now felt it necessary also to cancel the 2021 event scheduled for 26th & 27th November, in Leeds.

The event website says:
With the rise in covid 19 numbers due to the delta variant, and the likelihood of other more vicious variants likely to appear in the near future, it has been decided to postpone the tournament for another year.

250 people in an enclosed environment is a mass spreading event, especially as we will be in close proximity and breathing on each other for most of the day.

Masks are not good enough in that situation.

I (SM) fear that sometimes organisational zeal tips the balance in favour of proceeding with an event when it is unclear that proceeding is wise. There are always players so starved of chess that they are happy to risk contracting covid, and indeed to risk passing it on to others, so the decision to cancel the British Rapidplay a second time seems to me perfectly sensible.
Any postings on here represent my personal views

There is however the empirical evidence of the various tournaments that have already taken place, which are not rumoured to have been spreaders of disease.
Is it empirical evidence? By the same logic, those who practice unsafe sex with multiple partners and have yet to catch HIV/AIDS or any other STD...

I've corresponded with Steve Mann a bit on ECF matters and spoken to him at Council meetings. He strikes me as a decent and thoughtful chap! And he does a great job reporting on Yorkshire chess.

I agree, he does put lots of great information on the website, which I enjoy reading, a lot better than Lancashire.
There has been nothing on the Lancashire website since April 2020.
Lots of good info on the Hampshire, Dorset and Worcestershire chess association's websites aswell.
I also enjoy looking at the Swale Chess Club and Cumnor Chess Club websites.

Bolton Easter Congress 2022.
This was scheduled for Friday 15th to Sunday 17th April.
The event has been cancelled owing to the venue not being available.

I presume the venue (Bolton Ukrainian Club) has been involved with fundraising.

Looks like the British Rapidplay is cancelled for another year. http://www.british-rapidplay.org.uk/2020site/index.html

Perhaps the excellent English Rapidplay Championship event in Liverpool from 2017 needs to return to fill the gap.

Yeah, I was just looking at booking the time off work (I do shifts) and then saw the big "No Event in 2022 as Covid is pretty much as bad as it ever was..."

Disappointing we are missing yet another year of this.

I nearly fell off my chair in anger when I read the announcement.

I know little of the contractual arrangements relating to the event - Neil Graham may know more - but they allegedly give the organisers the right to hold the event in perpetuity. I very much doubt that they also give the organisers not to hold the event in perpetuity.

In my opinion the ECF Board should now terminate the contract immediately on the grounds of non-performance and make arrangements to hold a British Rapidplay Championship for 2022 as soon as possible. If it is too late to make arrangements for this to happen during 2022, then it should take place in the early months of 2023.

I fear that holding it during 2021 or in the early months of 2022 will prove problematic.

Given support I would run this event in 2022 and beyond.

I'm sure you mean 2022 and 2023, but what will it take for the rights not to hold a British Rapidplay to revert to the ECF?
