Regardless, Andrew does a fantastic volunteer job for the YCA and is a lovely chap as well. Chess is a game of patience, so non league players can wait.
He does and we can! The ECF LMS is very good indeed too. What we had from Jon G beforehand was good too of course.

I've a vague memory that the few times where other results have been critical for the league - like game points between us and Sheffield when playing two other people - we've just arranged friendly updates to each other via mobiles to save everyone waiting.

Many times yes a thumbs up to appreciation for Andrew Zigmond for all his hard work. Not only does he very ably act as a controller for the Yorkshire League he also does all the set-up work which allows the league to take place. That's on top of everything else that he does which I don't know about.

If people have suggestions as to how things can be run "better" then I'm sure the Yorkshire committee will be pleased to receive their criticisms, along with the plans they have showing how the improvements will be implemented.

It isn't that difficult. You just hand update rights to individual captains or arbiters if present with instructions to put in pairings and results as soon as they can legally use a computer or phone. If Yorkshire don't want to do that they could continue to attarct critiscm from the likes of Mark Howitt who are impatient to see results. The 4NCL has worked that way for donkey's years. You can retire to your room if you finish early and keep watch on the match progress through the website.

Yeah anyone on the team should be allowed to do it as long as they have some experience...

I will say right now I will offer to do it for FREE at some point... back to ringing up jobs etc now...

If there were numerous complaints or if a complaint was from someone serious who was an ecf paid up active member who had played more than one rated game in 14 years, then it may be that this would be addressed, but I expect that those who are active know the value of and are thankful for those who do run and administer leagues and events.

We're not welcoming you back to chess, Mark - we're suggesting that having played one game another 14 year break might be a good idea for you.

We'd all like to see people playing chess. Some people do something about it. Some don't. Some contribute negative effort, in that not only don't they do anything they undermine the efforts of those that do. I'd ask what your strategy is however, noting from your own blog that Chris Bailey is referring to your as "Walter Mitty", it's unlikely that you are bringing anything to the table aside from fantasy.

To paraphrase a famous quote "everyone brings joy to a room; some when they enter, some as they leave". Bye, Mark.

It doesn't matter if you're 'welcoming me back to chess'- I will still play if I want to.

The guy you are referring to has managed 2 billion dollars of shares and is my share mentor- he's coached me a lot for free... I've known him for 9 years...

It's good I have actual GMs who chat to me about chess :) It's partly because I had a worldwide selling chess novel at the age of 21 u see- something v few people could do :)

I do think about chess quite a lot sometimes... and I know some people might JUST play online because it's cheaper/quicker... it's not like they're not chessplayers they just might not want to play otb...

I still will a bit though!

Good look to all today. Andrew Zigmond has put in place a reserves league, for extra rated games. As a result we will have 10 matches on today at Holmfirth (6 boards for the league and 4 other rated games). It is a great chance to blood in new juniors and adults.

The reserves games have to go somewhere on LMS so the league table it generates isn't really relevant (I suppose I could do it as an individual but would have to add players manually, which is time consuming). Only the top six boards can count for the league proper but as I said to the Youth Club players on Thursday it gives us three chances to win (the main match, the reserves match and the overall).

I'm in action myself in the B Team match so results received will be imputed on my return although I will be going out later on.

That was a surprisingly big win against a good Bradford team. Sheffield beating Calderdale 7-1 was even more so.

Hull beat York A and would by rights be very well placed for a title tilt, but having dropped that draw earlier on they're going to have to rely on someone doing them a favour against Sheffield. Several possible candidates, no one immediately obvious.

Amusing to see York B (likely briefly) joint top. They did amazingly well on the top boards against Leeds today.

Relegation still looks like a massive scrap.
