e2e4 Sunningdale Congress takes place 5th - 7th July 2013.

There is a £2000 prize fund and the opportunity to qualify for the British Championships so why not come along and play at Sunningdale?!

There are three FIDE rated sections; Open, U2000 (175) and U1750 (145). More and more players are becoming FIDE rated and these events are a good opportunity to play rated games.

As usual, discounted rates are available for chess players staying at the hotel - and there is a discount off of the entry fee too.

Full details are here, and online entry is availble here.

Colours in round 1 of this weekend's event will be determined by the N. Djokovic -v- J. Del Potro (Arg) men's singles match at Wimbledon.

If the match contains an even number of games, the top player in each section will be white in round 1. If the match contains an odd number of games, the top player in each section will be black in round 1. Tie breaks count as one game.

This happily guards against an Isner-Mahut problem, because at 4-4 in the final set, there must be an even number of games for one player to win the set. (6-4, 7-5, 8-6...) Therefore, you'll know whether there are an even or odd number of games in the match.

This wouldn't work in the US Open, which has a tie-break in the final set. So you'd have to wait until 6-6 in the final set.

This assumes someone doesn't retire injured at 5-4 in the final set...
