Berks And Bucks Chess Congress 27th-29th of August

Post by matt_ward » Sun Jun 26, 2011 8:00 am

I would just like to promote the Following Tournament which I believe is a good one, which I played in 2009.

Details are as Follows:

47th Berks & Bucks Chess Congress

Saturday 27th to Monday 29th August 2011 at

Polehampton C.of E. Junior School

Kibblewhite Crescent, Twyford

Berkshire RG10 9AX

It generally attracts a good variety of strength in depth and I feel if you play in it you would not be let down. It has three sections Open, Major and Minor.

Open Fide Rated Six rounds 12-16 players Prizes £60 £48 £36 Entry Fee £21 (British Chess Championship Qualifying place 2012)

Challengers Fide Rated Prizes £60 £48 £36 Entry Fee £21

Reserves Several Sections Prizes £60 £48 £36 Entry Fee £21

You need to contact the tournament organiser via email which is here: Nigel W Dennis

([email protected])

Ps: I hope you play!

Matt. :) :) :) :D :D

Unless Nigel will be changing the format for this year, that's not really the case.

Rather more, the available players will be divided up into sections of between 16 and 20 players, of which the top two have been FIDE rated for the last couple of years. In recent years 5 or 6 sections have been run.

(edit) Just to confirm, the "Reserves" remains as several sections.

Anybody else going to this or will it just be me and Matt in a large school hall?

If you gave Nigel your email address, you should have received an entry list. The total to date is 77, which Nigel suggests will form 3 sections with FIDE rating and 3 without.

On past form there will probably be a few late entries. It's not a particularly large hall. :)

Yes, but just think how much it will cost to hire the plush venue, the live games transmission, bar, commentary room, bookstall, games inputters, digital clocks and spacious playing conditions. These things do not come cheaply these days.

Yes, I forgot about that. They have enough entry fee money left over to refurbish Polehampton Jnr School, just hope you do not get one of those kiddies tables with the mini chairs. Tea and coffee will be available, but only if you can get out of the playing area.
