e2e4 Sunningdale International : 10-14 August 2011

Post by Sean Hewitt » Fri May 06, 2011 2:43 pm

After the success of the Uxbridge and Brighton Internationals we will be holding the next in our series of all play all events from Wednesday 10th - 14th August at De Vere Sunningdale Park Hotel. This will provide very comfortable playing conditions for all players as can be seen

Full details are available via the tournament website by clicking here.

The Masters event offers players (rated 2050+) the opportunity of 9 extremely competitive games of chess with the the chance to secure that all important norm. We are running two norm section with entries accepted on a strictly first come first served basis. There are just 8 places for titled players and 8 for untitled players and given that we usually sell out fast we recommend an early entry if you want to play.

The Challengers event is open to players rated over 1900 or graded above 150 ECF or those who have qualified from a previous Major. Players will be divided into equal strength sections of 10 players. The winner of each Challengers section will qualify to play in the next Masters event irrespective of their rating - and their entry fee will be paid by us too!

The Major event is open to all players rated below 2000 or graded below 170 ECF who want to play 9 competitive FIDE rated games of chess in a friendly atmosphere with the opportunity to gain those all important rating points or obtain their first ever FIDE rating. Players will be placed in groups of 10 according to rating / grade so that all the players in a group are of a similar strength.

All 9 games are FIDE rated, even if unrated players take part (this is unique to all play alls). This means that any unrated player who plays in any of these events will get a full FIDE rating as long as they (and all other unrated players in their section) score at least one point out of 9. It also means that rated players get 9 FIDE rated games of chess regardless of the number of unrated players in their section.

As the FIDE rating list now goes down to 1201, any player graded 60 ECF or above can realistically achieve a full FIDE rating at this event.

So why not vistit our website and enter now?!

4 weeks to go to the Sunningdale International and interest has been unbelievable. We have had to secure extra playing space and extra bedrooms.

The Masters can now accommodate 40 players. We have 2 spaces left (for titled players only).

The Challengers can now hold 30 players. There are 10 places still available.

The Major will hold 40 players. We can take 6 more entires.

I suspect that all of these places will be gone inside 7-10 days so I recommend you enter sooner rather than later!

The weekend before the event starts.

Experience tells me that there will be at least one withdrawal before the event starts and if you have already published the groups this can lead to major problems if the replacement player is not similar in all respects (title / nationality / rating) to the player he or she is replacing.

And sure enough, we've had a withdrawal in the Major! Replacement slotted in from the waiting list.

Groups for the Masters and Challengers have now been published here http://www.e2e4.org.uk/entrants_int.htm

We have been fortunate in securing additional space from Sunningdale Park which means we can run one extra Major section. 7 players from the waiting list have already entered but we have 3 vaccancies. Enter online here. It is first come first served.
