35th Nottingham Rapidplay and 49th Nottingham Congress

Post by John Swain » Fri Jan 09, 2026 1:51 pm

The Nottingham Rapidplay is fast approaching - Sunday 1 February 2026 at the usual venue, Nottingham High School and FIDE-rated as well as ECF-rated (with the exception of the under 1300 Improvers' Section which is ECF-rated only): https://congress.org.uk/congress/633/home

The Nottingham Congress returns to its usual timing: 18-19 April 2026, also at Nottingham High School. It will be FIDE-rated for the first time (also with the exception of the Improvers): https://congress.org.uk/congress/634/home

Please email any questions to [email protected] or [email protected] as appropriate (current committee members) aren't on the EC Forum.

A polite reminder that, if you are thinking of playing in next Sunday's Nottingham Rapidplay, you would be best advised to enter online before tomorrow midnight (Monday 26th January) to avoid paying the £5 late entry fee which will apply from Tuesday morning.

Good news (and this is not some clever marketing ploy!)

It seems that I was misinformed and those entering the Nottingham Rapidplay today are not having the £5 late entry fee applied. It will presumably apply from midnight.

Many thanks to all the organisers for an excellent event!

The Nottingham Congress (18-19 April) at the same venue, which is FIDE-rated for the first time, is taking entries: https://congress.org.uk/congress/634/home

Assuming it's the same person, that's a great win for Jan Murawski of Oxford (his surname is spelt "Muraski" on the Nottinghamshire Chess page).
