Rate of play: 90 minutes plus 30 second increment from move 1.

Norm requirements: GM norm 7/9, IM norm Haydon 5, Derakhshani & Gordon 5.5.

Yes, round 3 put a big dent in the GM norm chances. As is often the case, the most difficult opponents for Wood Green players are fellow Wood Green players!

Norm chances: Jackson & Wadsworth need 2/2 for a GM norm, Haydon needs 1.5/2 for an IM norm.

You would think it is still very possible for Wadsworth or Haydon to get their norms. More difficult for Jackson.

A bad round for the norms, just David H left who needs to win for an IM norm in the last round.

We've said before in various threads that the worst norm events are those where almost everyone has a plausible chance of a norm! You have probably done well enough to have one player even in contention by the time of the last round.

Well, the fact that the last round has seen all the other boards drawn and only Haydon playing (on?) to try and beat Ernst probably also says something as well. Might be worth looking at the live game...

As someone who spent considerably longer than five seconds organising the event and giving five English, one Irish and one Scottish player the opportunity to play for a GM and or IM norm I can only say that I'm grateful that the players were rather more appreciative of my efforts.
