I think the zero result for him in round 7 on chess-results.com is a mistake and will be corrected in due course.
It's the way chess-results treats byes. It is only a mistake if you believe that piece of software is a mistake.
I think you are correct. I am by no means an expert with Swiss Manager, but I used it when helping at the Kidlington Congress a few weeks ago. At the start of each round I had to remember to set the results of players who had chosen to take a bye to half. If I uploaded the results to chess-results.com without doing this I think it appeared as a zero on the website. Fortunately Swiss Manager detected that these results hadn't been entered so it wasn't possible to do the pairings for the next round until something had been entered, either half because the player was taking a bye or zero because they had withdrawn.

Players above 2000 can have an incentive not to allow their ratings to be excessively damaged, there are after all titles at 2200 and 2300.
Particularly if those players want to play abroad and find tournaments they want to play in have minimum ratings of 2000, 2100 or 2200 and they no longer meet that threshold.

The way Tiviakov's position (as White) in round 8 went from winning to losing is quite instructive. I last looked at the position just before White's 34th move, and was very surprised to look again just now and see that IM Martin Haubro (now the new tournament leader) had won!

There was a five-point swing after White's 40.c7??

A win would have left him a point clear with a round to go.

Thanks. No play-offs then, to cut to the chase. That must reduce the likelihood of another Adams victory.

Any norm chances?

I have been looking at a few likely candidates, and I cannot make head or tail of it... Lorenzo Fava looks like a potential IM norm, but he has played all ENG, so does that throw a spanner into the works?

Jonah Willow is playing a third GM, but I have no idea what his adjusted performance rating would be if he beats Adams in the final round. Raising his 1696 opponent to 2200 presumably makes a big difference?

Nikolas Wachinger has played four GMs from four different federations, but also has a 1926 opponent to raise to 2200 for performance calculations.

I suspect most of these fall short of the GM norm performance requirement. There may be some other IM norm seekers? Difficult to tell.

PS. The tournament leader (Haubro) cannot get a GM norm as will have only played 2 GMs and the requirement is to have at least a third of opponents being GMs.

Jonah needs to win for first GM norm.

A draw is enough for an IM norm for Lorenzo.

Bodhana's WIM norm chance ended after yesterday's marathon round 8 game and Ruqayyah has only faced four titled opponents but both can be very proud of strong performances at such a young age.

As Chris points out, Fava can’t get a norm if he’s played all English players?

I did have a look to see whether this tournament has enough foreigners for an exemption, but I don't think it has 10 non-English IMs and GMs.

Good point! A shame that such a good performance goes unrewarded.
