London Classic 2022
Just heard through CSC sources there will be no London Classic this year. Heard it through someone at the Crypt Rapidplay currently going on in Bloomsbury, London. Svidler is playing (!) plus Speelman, Ghazi, Eggleston and loads of IMs.

Given the lack of announcements, that seemed reasonably obvious.Chris Rice wrote: ↑Sat Oct 29, 2022 7:02 pmJust heard through CSC sources there will be no London Classic this year.
London in Deccember is still a tourist destination. A chess tournament was still an excuse for a daily commute for those that gave it up years ago.

Not only was Svidler playing, he was doing so wearing a meerkat outfit! He was far from being the only one who may have violated the FIDE dress code.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Sat Oct 29, 2022 10:22 pmCongrats to whomever was entrusted with the task of keeping that secret!Chris Rice wrote: ↑Sat Oct 29, 2022 7:02 pmHeard it through someone at the Crypt Rapidplay currently going on in Bloomsbury, London. It was a 64 player event, divided into 8 all-play-all groups and then a 16 player knockout. I left after the quarter-finals (albeit I was eliminated in the last 16 by Ameet Ghasi who was knocked out by Jon Speelman in the next round). The other quarter-finalists included Gormally, R Pert, Eggleston, Rendle. From Facebook this morning I see that Danny Gormally won the event.

Hopefully they will confirm dates for 2023 before the end of August 2023, so that schedulers of league fixtures can avoid clashing the dates for matches where participants may wish to play at the Classic.
