Hastings Congress 2022-23

Post by Roger de Coverly » Sun Jun 19, 2022 2:43 pm

Any news on this?

I note that a 4NCL weekend scheduled for 7-8 January 2023 comes close to an overlap. Usually but not always, Hastings ends on January 5th. This year that will be a Thursday, so if they extended to ten or eleven rounds, that could clash. If they run a weekend Congress, that might also be on the 6th or 7th to the 8th.

Last year the website announced an intention in May to run a Congressalthough there was no detail until September.

I have a proof of the entry form, so I think that you can expect full information before too long.

As Congress Secretary I can advise that the dates of the Congress will be:

Masters, ten rounds, Wednesday 28 December to Friday 6 January inclusive

short tournaments, Wednesday 28 December to Sunday 1 January inclusive and also Monday 2 January to Friday 6 January inclusive

Weekend congress Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 January

Obviously you should wait until the entry form is actually out before making any irreversible arrangements

Hi Paul.
Just wandering when you hope to have the entry forms out?

But no section for Seniors?

Why not follow the practice of many tournaments in Europe and split the Masters into an Open and a separate Seniors section?

Because we didn't think of it and no one suggested it to us. And our focus was on restoring quasi-normality after no event in 2020/21 or 2021/22.

I suggest you put forward a case for change in 23/24; before this coming Christmas please. E-mail to [email protected], copy to me at Paul [email protected]

I note in passing that the ECF Manager of Senior Chess sits - in a personal capacity - on our Congress Committee.

Not had much to say! But I am interested in what others have to say.

Are you playing at the Blackpool Congress in mid-February?
What tournaments have you got coming up?
Czech Tour?

No surprise that Savitha Shri B didn't turn up as she was playing in Kazakhstan earlier today. She was paired in Round 1 but her opponent must have accepted a repairing.

Perhaps also no surprise that none of the unrated Kazakhstani players turned up either. I certainly wasn't.

Gormally-Marusenko from Round 1 shows Petr missing succesive wins on moves 27 and 28, instead agreeing a draw. Mind you, it's a lot easier to see these sort of things sitting at home with a glass of wine and an engine to confirm your suspicions.
