The new website for the Scarborough Chess Congress is still down for maintenance.
Paper entry forms were available at the Blackpool Chess Congress earlier this year.
Any news on the website?

I've been monitoring the entries at Scarborough. I elected for the Open, but it does seem to have a distinct tail of lower rated players, perhaps because it's the only FIDE rated section.

I think the cutoff was ECF 2050. There are currently only 4 entrants above FIDE 2050

Roger is absolutely correct - every entrant in the "Open" section has a FIDE identity code. Last year I played in the Open for exactly this reason - unfortunately I lost plenty of rating points scoring 1/5 (=2;-3). Consequently this year I've decided to enter the Major - however I find that it is relatively much stronger than the Open. Should I move to the Open I'll be 27th seed and would be facing a 1900 in Round One whereas in the Major my prospective opponent is 1914 and I'm 30th seed! There are only 5 players rated below me in the Major whereas there are 10 in the Open. Perhaps a swift move to the Inter is called for! :)

I did speak to Nigel Hepworth about this some time ago and suggested that the Major should be FIDE rated as well as the Open in future.

Although I will be bringing my friend Martin Mitchell who is currently 3rd seed in the Open with a grade of 2228 Elo.
FM Adam Ashton entered the Open Section yesterday. I am currently 3rd seed in the Minor.
I've noticed a number of other forum members have entered aswell.

Sorry for the late reporting but first here is last night's report.
I drew with Black against Carl Stephens of Darlington Chess Club in the Minor.
It was quite an exciting game with both using a lot of time as there was a huge amount of tension in the position. One for the neutrals as the game attracted an audience at times.
I was offered a draw, which I accepted, possibly prematurely.
Regards the rest of the tournament last night, I didn't see much as my game needed complete attention. There was a lot of analysis after with Carl.
An enjoyable game against a top bloke.

Just looking at the crosstable in the open. Going into the final round we have a player seeded 56th currently as sole leader, it will be interesting to see how that situation plays out ...
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

Penultimate round I think you mean

Some of the pairings look strange like Adam Ashton's 3rd round opponent

He was due to play Mick Fenton from what I originally saw, so I presume they forgot about the HPB or something else occurred; and they simply repaired with the player receiving the FPB

I notice that one of the six leaders in the open wasn't paired in the last round.

There’s a few excellent performances by juniors.

Cute finish, albeit Tim let him off the hook when he missed 27. Bb7!!.

I imagine Tim's view we need more FIDE tournaments for under-rated juniors reinforced.

An eventful Scarborough Congress. A couple of incidents in the Minor Section which I will ask about in General Chat over the next few days.
I was impressed with the standard of play by the young juniors in the Open. Watching them at close quarters, I was disappointed with how much they fidgeted. A few players in the Open brought that up with me, and how distracting it was.
I'm afraid this wasn't delt with by the Arbiters despite complaints.
