My experience was less extreme (I was 1999), 1733, 2272, 2277, 2399, 1775, 2346, 2312, 2204, 1684. It did seem a bit much losing to a 2277 and then getting a 2399 as a reward, but it is good to play stronger opposition.

Brandon Clarke draws with two 2600s, and Epsom colleague Peter Large draws with Romanishin.

Does anyone understand why Adhiban did not play on? After the obvious 34...Rge8+, even if you don't believe the strange Stockfish line, White is obviously in a lot of trouble.

A quick glance through the game suggests to me that black was much better for most of it with no risk whereas in the final position there is at least some hope of activity for white (assuming his king doesn't get mated in the middle of the board). So maybe black felt he had lost the thread and didn't feel confident carrying on.

That said, it doesn't look like a position where a draw would be agreed!

Adhiban is a strong GM who has been as high as 2700, so that would show considerable respect for his opponent. I'm not suggesting it would be misplaced.

Yes, my suggestion was certainly not made with any real confidence. Other than feeling unwell, having a headache etc it's a bit of a puzzle.

It works much better for players in the top quarter
Ah, so it's for their benefit.
Particularly in Round 6, where, from Board 20 and below, numerous pairings can be seen where the rating difference between the players is 300 - 400 points.

The problem with the accelerated pairing system is that you tend to get the normal round 1 and 2 pairings later in the tournament. You don't avoid them altogether. It really works badly against second quarter players, who may well lose in round 1 to a 1st quarter player, then might lose to an in-form bottom half player in round 2, and their tournament is more or less over. At Guernsey many years ago, I had a bad loss to Julian Hodgson in round 1 (as might be expected), then lost to an unrated Dutchman, who certainly played well. 0/2 soon became 4/6 against a string of lowly rated players, then 5/7 after a good win in the last round. I certainly played better and got more rating points for 4.5/7 the next year.
At Reykjavik 2018, I did feel sorry for my round 2 IM opponent, who also started with 0/2, but scored heavily thereafter, but not I suspect against exciting opposition.

I think it was 4 or 5 rounds when I played. I assume the idea is to avoid the Swiss bounce, whereby you lose to a 2700 in round 1, then get a 700 in Round 2. Whether that is a good idea or not, I don't know...
If so, it isn't working very well.

Theo Khoury's opponents have gone 1652, 2422, 1652, 2373.
Followed by a 1565 unfortunately.
A win against a 2136 in round 7 to return to +1.

Pairing should be more normal for the last 2 rounds.

On today's results of the junior generation I know of, great result by Harry Z who got today 1.5/2 against 2100+ opponents
Sohum lost this evening to an IM but his performance is still at FM level (nearing 2300)
In the morning, fantastic performance from Zain Patel who beat a 2119

Interesting to see Mads Andersen near the top (and drawing with Pragg). On an early trip to Gausdal, Mads was a young junior. He and his family were really nice and I wondered how he would progress, JL Hammer and Magnus were playing too. They all seemed quite promising...

Nice stalemate!

Peter Large draws with Adhiban (2633) and his reward(?) is to play Vignesh Anand (1829).

A point swing in Gukesh-Praggnanandhaa decides the tournament in black's favour.
