251 players so far - they claim that the venue is the best for a chess tournament and they may well be right. It is big and spacious, tournament is very well-organised. The only drawback really is that Iceland is somewhat expensive, ok, very expensive. The venue does special reduced prices for refreshments during the playing sessions though.

"A respectable list of English players as well, no Russians."

I played in 2018, and there were 16 English, but only 3 Russians, maybe it's too cold for them.

264 players now and the Round 1 draw should be up before 2pm BST
(Iceland an hour behind so 1pm there) according to the organisers.

They did allow half-point byes when I was there. They also used an accelerated pairing system for several rounds.

It's good to see a representative of our own dear Channel Islands also.

I was about to ask about this, pairings didn't make sense until I thought of acceleration.

A bit a shame that they don't clearly advertise the acceleration, many hoped to play a titled player on round 1.

Six of the top 10 seeds meet ENG opponents in Round 1, with Terry Chapman on top board, so should be an interesting watch this afternoon. Kick off 4pm BST.

If Theo beats his weakie opponent(s) in round(s) 1-2, he should be paired with a big fish who has dropped points in rounds 2-3, that's how acceleration works.

The middle game was entertaining with very sharp positions and both players making calculation mistakes. However the endgame wasn't great with a couple of positional mistakes then a basic trapped rook mistake.

In terms of UK or UK based juniors there, you can also follow (when they are on liveboards) :
Apologies if I forgot some.
