Ilkley Congress - 16-18 September 2022
This new congress will run from the Kings Hall & Winter Gardens in Ilkley, West Yorkshire on the 16-18 September 2022. This venue is directly opposite Ilkley Train Station and is a beautiful building.
We have capacity for 200 players and will structure the congress over 4 sections - Open, Major (u2000), Intermediate (u1750) and Minor (u1500).
Full details and entry is available via our website: https://www.chesscentre.online/festival
Should anyone have any further questions then please don't hesitate to get in touch - [email protected]
Please Note: This weekend in the Chess Calendar has traditionally been the Bradford Congress, which sadly will not run this year. The organisers of Bradford approached us to enquire whether we would take up this weekend to provide a local tournament in Yorkshire. We agreed to go so with their blessing and with the full support of the BDCA.

In the conyexyt of it both being Open and having a time control of 90 minutes with 10 second increments, that seems unlikely.

No it isn't a FIDE rated event.

A great initial take up for the Ilkley Congress in September. Definitely a sign of the times/more limited congress availability that people are entering events earlier than was traditionally the case?
We will stop entries when we reach 200, which of course is some way off at this point, but nonetheless we wouldn't want people to miss out if they want to play.

Very interesting Andrew
I've recently made a tentative return to OTB Chess, playing a few club matches.
One of the drawbacks of my new job is that it's shift work and this badly affects my ability to play Congresses (I can be working the weekend both days & nights - and looking at the upcoming ECF calendar, I'm incredibly unlucky!) However this falls nicely over some annual leave I've booked for no particular reason, I've signed up, very much looking forward to it.

Good to see there are already 44 entries, including a few forum members and one International Master.

Any hotel suggestions or recommendations for those from outside the immediate area?

Most hotels in Ilkley are decent, but if you cannot find a place there which I had a problem a few months ago because it was too busy, then Otley had plenty of places and it was no more than £10 in a taxi (or less if you get the bus) and only about 10 mins awayRoger de Coverly wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 8:12 pmAndrew Wainwright wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 5:23 pmA great initial take up for the Ilkley Congress in September.

The other question arising is that in the relatioe absence of hotels with vacancies that weekend within walking distance, what's the position with availability and cost of car parking?Alan Walton wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 11:43 pmMost hotels in Ilkley are decent, but if you cannot find a place there

Another option is staying somewhere a couple of stops away on the trainRoger de Coverly wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 3:37 pmThe other question arising is that in the relatioe absence of hotels with vacancies that weekend within walking distance, what's the position with availability and cost of car parking?Alan Walton wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 11:43 pmMost hotels in Ilkley are decent, but if you cannot find a place there

Correct, the trains are very convenient to Ilkley; Guiseley, Menston & Burley have very frequent trains (takes about 15 mins max); Bradford, Shipley & Baildon are also OK but less frequent; otherwise central Leeds is only 25 mins awayMick Norris wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 5:38 pmAnother option is staying somewhere a couple of stops away on the trainRoger de Coverly wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 3:37 pmThe other question arising is that in the relatioe absence of hotels with vacancies that weekend within walking distance, what's the position with availability and cost of car parking?Alan Walton wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 11:43 pmMost hotels in Ilkley are decent, but if you cannot find a place there
