BRITISH SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS 4-10 October

Played at a hotel in Milton Keynes.

Entry Details: https://www.britishchesschampionships.c ... try-forms/
Venue: https://www.britishchesschampionships.c ... mmodation/

Most rounds are in the afternoon. Some trains from Euston to Milton Keynes take about an hour.

Unlike some of the other championship events, entry to the Seniors (50+ and 65+) does not require prior qualification via a previous online competition.

Not many entries so far. Is anyone else planning on entering?

I would have loved to play but the details came too late for me - am already committed to Mallorca

The European Seniors is being held from 25th Sept to 5th Oct 2021 in Sardinia. This will overlap with the start of the British Seniors.
So far Terry Chapman and Keith Arkell are the only English players in the European Seniors over 65's.

See also the Seniors section of this Forum and www.chessmail.com for more information on other senior events upcoming.

It should be noted that Keith is only 60 so he is down for the wrong section at the Europeans in Sardinia. This will presumably be fixed when he arrives if not before.

There are also three Irish entries: Peter Cafolla and Gabriel Mirza in the 50+, Kevin James in the 65+.

My entry was never finalised and in fact I'm now playing in the OTB British at Hull.

Which will of course be a relief to some of the competitors in Milton Keynes!

Ha ha, but I am sure Keith was never considering playing the British Seniors.

If Keith had gone to Sardinia, where on present entry lists he would be fourth seed for the European 50+ he would have a very good chance of winning, and at least an excellent shot at being in the top three who get free entry and accommodation for next year's World Seniors.

He would also enjoy some sunshine and good Italian food & drink in Sardinia which may be harder to find in Hull.
Since he is the reigning British Champion, the ECF presumably wanted Keith to defend. I hope they have given him good conditions to go to Hull and compensate him for the opportunity he has passed up.

However, there is probably no Rugby League in Sardinia...
