I understand that a number of players are doing that.

Re: British Online Chess Championships 18th December 2020 to 3rd January 2021
Hi all, I occasionally read this forum so was quite amused when I became the topic of conversation. I would have estimated I'm about 2300 strength before the tournament but have played well and have had some luck. Adams was too good for me last night, Be3 was a very bad move. The fact I'm still under 2000 rated is I believe due to how slowly the FIDE rating system adapts plus maybe another 100/150 points of improvement during the pandemic.Leonard Barden wrote: ↑Sun Dec 27, 2020 10:14 pmWho is Peter Finn?
1959 rating, seeded 23rd, 22 years old, 3.5/4 and paired with Adams on top board tomorrow, outplayed IM Wadsworth tonight and GM Hebden in round 3, only draw was with GM Lalic, TPR 2697.....

Welcome. And it's a bit difficult to change FIDE ratings at present!

Welcome Peter, and well done so far. I guess that Adams did treat you in the way that he treats all ordinary 2450 players but life goes on!

Unusual situation: Adams is downfloated to Bogdan on 3.5, because he has played all three players on 4/5, including Tristan Cox in the first round!

A flying start! Reminds me a bit of John Merriman's flying start at the 2017 British Championship. 3.5 out of 4, with wins over Simon Williams and Mark Hebden, plus a near miss against eventual play off runner up, Craig Hanley. You should talk to Tim Spanton and Wadih Khoury, and plot a way to cash in the good form for some over-the-board FIDE points in European events.

Congrats to Bogdan then, never a man to distinguish much between playing 2720s and 2120s.
I had thought that even he would struggle to hold Adams with Black but Adams has given up 1 e4 for this event, it seems, and I think that played into Bogdan's hands. It may well have the been last realistic opportunity to stop Adams making 100% as well.

Well, yes. However, I played Bogdan in Surrey Division 2 a few years ago (when I was about 2000) and I was somewhat disturbed when he castled opposite sides and delivered a terrifying pawn storm against my king. "Who are you and what have you done with Bogdan?", I thought. Useful lesson though.

I have played Mohammed many times on Lichess without ever knowing who he was. Definitely a great talent, has been nice to see some of the Lichess regulars performing so well after hundreds of hours of play throughout the pandemic.Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 9:52 pmWaiting now for Leonard to post about young Mohammed Ismail ....

My plan for this year was to play as many FIDE rated events as possible. I gained 100 points quite quickly in the few months before the pandemic. I was planning to play at least one event in Europe but unfortunately I'm living with my parents and they were shielding so this wasn't really possible.Matt Bridgeman wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 11:26 amA flying start! When provoked by the Modern Benoni, I've seen him play the f4, Bb5+ line known as the Taimanov or Flick Knife. Perhaps there's a forced draw in there somewhere.Kevin Thurlow wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 9:14 pmHowever, I played Bogdan in Surrey Division 2 a few years ago (when I was about 2000) and I was somewhat disturbed when he castled opposite sides and delivered a terrifying pawn storm against my king. Plaintive ignorance - again. I've entered only one event (Over 65 rapid) - paid my money and my name is in the list for the qualifying event - but now I cannot find (a) when the qualifying event is taking place (?7pm Wednesday 30th?) and (b) where to go (chess.com? Lichess??) to join it ... where should I be looking, please?

I just checked - it was a QG exchange variation, where we both attempted terrifying pawn storms. His worked (but at least I tried...)

Andy,
The tournaments are taking place on chess.com
If you go to chess-results and click on the appropriate section you can see the playing schedule - looks like you are playing on the 3rd
