I'm not sure this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I may have missed it.
It is the anniversary of the formation in FIDE in 1924, as proposed by Leonard P Rees of Redhill Chess Club. I have a copy of his original draft letter (complete with crossings out!)
Quick edit to add

which has an interesting mix of very serious titles and some slightly odd ones.

Some of them ought to be on our minds every day. I'm a bit puzzled by the 12th September "South-South cooperation day".
41 played in the ECF event with varying amounts of skill. I overlooked a mate in 1 on about move 15 in one game, but managed a neat bishop ending (until I look at it tomorrow).

The results are at https://www.chess.com/tournament/live/a ... ena-262594.Kevin Thurlow wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 12:27 am41 played in the ECF event with varying amounts of skill. I overlooked a mate in 1 on about move 15 in one game, but managed a neat bishop ending (until I look at it tomorrow).
I never quite manage to fathom the numbers in Chess.com events. I too had seen 41 mentioned. The heading of the link above states that there were 45 players, but results are only given for 39.
Congratulations on finishing 7th, which is a fine result whatever the number of competitors.
