I am pleased to announce that this year's congress will be held on the 20th and 21st of September this year. Please note that we have returned to our preferred weekend in September, and we are confident that this will be the case in future years. However, the venue is the same - Trent College, Long Eaton NG10 4AD. I know it's early, but ENTRIES ARE NOW OPEN! The website is at https://congress.org.uk/congress/570/home I am hoping to have flyers available at various congresses before then, including Blackpool this weekend, and Doncaster and Coventry later this month. There will be five sections as last year, but the grading boundaries have been tweaked slightly in order to try and make the numbers in each section a little more equal. As before, the entry limit will be 200. Following feedback from our first year, we provided a greater range of refreshments last year, and this will be the same this year. Many thanks to all who have supported us over the last two years. We look forward to welcoming you again to our fantastic venue which is very disability friendly and has excellent transport links as well as generous, free parking. If you have any questions/comments, please use this email address: [email protected]
Many thanks, David Woodhouse.

Re: The 3rd Derbyshire Chess Congress 20th & 21st Sept. 2025
Following the ECF's revised pay-to-play fees for bronze-level participants, I have tweaked the online entry information and the congress flyer to reflect this. The website can be found at: https://congress.org.uk/congress/570/home as before, but if anyone needs to contact me via email about the congress, I now have a dedicated email address for this, which is: [email protected]
For telephone enquiries, please use 07976 701995.
Many thanks,
David Woodhouse.

Re: The 3rd Derbyshire Chess Congress 20th & 21st Sept. 2025
This is just a reminder that there are still plenty of spaces left (at the moment!) for the congress on the 20th & 21st of this month. With FIVE rating sections, the boundaries are not so wide as to be daunting for those nearer the bottom of a section. The Open and Major sections are currently looking particularly good value in terms of the ratio of prize money to entrants! Thanks to those of you who are supporting us for the third year in a row; you obviously recognise a well-organised congress with a superb venue when you see it! For those of you yet to experience it, the venue has lots of natural light by day, with pleasant grounds to look at and enjoy in between rounds. The lighting is also excellent at night, and there is plenty of room at and around the playing tables. Snacks and drinks are provided at very competitive prices, although there are numerous places to get something more substantial nearby, with no restrictions on what you can bring into the cafe area at the venue. There is plenty of FREE car parking on site too. Howard Wood will once again be running his excellent Chess Essentials bookstall, which is where the analysis room is also housed. There is plenty of room in a dedicated quiet area for parents and other supporters who may wish to work and benefit from the free wi-fi on site.
As mentioned in a previous post, the website for entry to the congress is: https://congress.org.uk/congress/570/home and for email enquiries, it's [email protected]
