Don't worry all.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 7:02 pmI took a look at https://ratings.fide.com/rated_tourname ... ountry=ENG out of curiosity to see what's there.
There was a rapidplay in Hull listed for yesterday, but I rather think that's just not been removed.
Otherwise it's just the Northumbria Masters in August, the Northumberland weekender in September, Scarborough in October and the London Junior/Open in December.
Nothing notified to FIDE yet for the 4NCL, Hastings and others. Scarborough hasn't been FIDE rated in the past.
Nothing for Wales, Scotland or Ireland either.
Your roving reporter has found some other events taking place. It's just a case of visiting certain websites.
I've also found a large number of International events taking place to go in the obscure topic.
Apologies for not posting sooner as I had to wait for my phones' data allowance to renew.

A decision will be taken during the summer as to whether the Grand Swiss can proceed as scheduled. If it does not, then it is almost certain that the Major and Minor Tournaments will also be postponed or cancelled.Nick Burrows wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 8:07 pmIOM International are hoping to hold a Major & Minor alongside the Grand Swiss but waiting on developments.
Late Oct / Early Nov
The provisional dates for the Major and Minor, if they do go ahead, are Saturday 30th October to Friday 5th November. Anyone considering entering should bear in mind that I have accepted an invitation to be the Principal Arbiter for these tournaments.

South Lakes Congress is off for 2021, because the venue (Kendal Leisure Centre) is going to be unavailable until the end of the year.
The better news is that it has already been booked for the tournament to return in mid 2022

"The good news though is that we plan to hold the 2022 event in Kendal on the
weekend of June 3rd, 4th and 5th. The Kendal Leisure Centre is booked and we
hope to see you there; an entry form will be available at the end of the
year."

From the dates, we can infer the likely format. In recent years one of the schedules for the Christmas and New Year tournaments has been double round. It's a bit like playing in a weekend tournament that's not at a weekend and where the first round is in the afternoon. The planned Congress will take place between (Wednesday) 29th December 2021 and (Sunday) 9th January 2022 and will include 10-round Masters tournament, Christmas, New Year and Weekend events as in previous years.
Depending on travel rules some non-resident foreign players may have difficulties.

On the other hand, some British players who prefer to play abroad at that time of year might find they can't and Hastings is their only viable option.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 10:08 amDepending on travel rules some non-resident foreign players may have difficulties.

Normally Hastings would start on the 28th. Is it starting one day later to allow for extra covid-related preparations?

If you are running a tournament with a small number of participants the pairings won't work near the end if you run it as a Swiss - it has to be an APA.Wadih Khoury wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 11:14 amCan't you do it as a swiss (they'll still be playing al, but the pairing would be determined each round)?Adam Raoof wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 10:43 pmI am doing four rapidplay events in July and August, but I would like to have 10 all play sections of 6. However FIDE would charge £70 per section to rate them!
So I think I will just stick to ECF rating these...
Or more practically, why limit to 6 your sections? If all goes to plan, there will no longer be a rule of 6 in effect indoors and you can resume normal sections.
