State of the ECF Forum

Post by Michael Farthing » Fri Jun 27, 2014 9:11 pm

For heavens sake someone tell those amateurs on the ECF how to monitor forum registrations!
All they have to do is look in the help files.
I'd tell them myself, except that I'm being 'bad cop' at the moment and they wouldn't listen.
But this is above a forum battle - it's just making English chess look ridiculous.
[And they're giving money to these people!!!!!!]

I’m more than a little bit insulted that the spammer didn’t touch my rook and pawn post in the endgames section.

It's not an easy thing to do; they deserve some tolerance.

On the other hand it's a good demonstration of how effective and discreet a job is done here by Carl and Jack. Deserving of a lot of praise.

There was one for a little bit though it was zapped quickly. Haven't seen anything on the 2 knights post yet.

I'm sorry. It's trivially easy. You can require all new registrations to be approved. And before going live they should have familiarised themselves with the mechanics. Now if I had been starting an ECF forum I would have been keen to get a lot of registrations quickly, so I might well have allowed unapproved registrations (though from experience I wouldn't have). But the abuse became quite apparent almost immediately and could easily have been stopped by now.

[Carl and Jack still deserve a lot of praise of course].

that was a couple of days ago wasn’t it?

Tonight’s spammer has hit almost every thread on every sub-forum except mine. The fecker.

He just doesn't like you Jonathan. By the way, across how many media channels does the S&B 180 challenge spread? I think you should include a postal match using London urchins as runners.

Well, Kay Joslin P has done a beautiful spring clean. I did try to send a congratulatory p.m. but p.m. facilities seem to be absent.
Ah well!

If you're listening here Kay, well done!

Hi Jonathan.

"I’m more than a little bit insulted that the spammer
didn’t touch my rook and pawn post in the endgames section."

Posting anything to do with endings on any forum is spam.
These spamming bums are showing you total respect.

Jonathan,

What's happening in that 2 knights v Pawn? Last time I tried to look I got a resource limit exceeded. Third one I've had over there and they've only got 100 posts or so!

Michael - here's the story so far. I think I've got it pretty much worked out from here!

It would, of course, be most improper for me to comment, but I shall watch with interest. Thanks for the update!
