Do all please reinforce your will to see the 'new' Fide begin to move forward from the old Macro regime and establish a Seniors Chess Commission for the first time
That may be a sensible idea, but it should not be necessary for this purpose. This sort of issue, which is not restricted to senior chess, is part of the remit of Events Commission, and they certainly have plenty of influential members ( including Dirk himself ), but they choose to ignore it.

Thanks for the reassurance that I'm not the only one. So I sent off my money today. It's probably something to do with the hotel we chose.

At least I won't be getting a huge credit card bill just before Christmas.

See you in Bled!

Players are now gathering in beautiful Bled.
Registration continues for a couple of hours tomorrow (Sunday) morning so we won't know until around mid-day whether all entrants have arrived and what the first round draws will be.
First round at 3pm local time tomorrow (1400 GMT) but the final round (rd 11 on the 29th) will start in the morning.

Moreover the apparent "requirement' that any bank transfer must be by 1 November (for an event that starts 18 November) seems very strange to me (what happens if money transferred on 1 November arrives the next day … is it returned?!). This just seems plain daft, not least because players can pay by cash at registration on 17/18 November if they want to.
It took the Greek Euro Club Cup organisers 24 days to confirm my initial transfer for Wood Green this year but a couple of hours for the balance :?

Round 1 pairings are up now. The usual top half v bottom half.

OPEN 65+: http://chess-results.com/tnr361548.aspx ... ES&flag=30

Others can be reached from that link.
I wasn't at the technical meeting so I don't know the situation about live boards.

Brian Hewson plays GM Jansa in the Open 65+ so that will possibly be live and some of the English women's games too.
There are enough female entries to play 11-round Swisses in both their events (for the first time?).

A few women including Rosemary Giulian from Scotland have entered the Opens as they are fully entitled to do, and I am playing one of them (maybe the only one in the 65+?).

Play due to start in rounds 1-10 at 1600 GMT (3pm local).
Next Saturday is a free day with optional 10 minute rapid tournament for the masochists.

Your opponent made a valiant attempt to replicate Rudd-Arkell, Aberystwyth 2014, but his failure to move his a-pawn meant he couldn't swing the a1 rook over to the kingside. :)

Great performance today from Dinah Norman in the women's 65+, defeating the No6 seed from Georgia, a WGM rated 351 points higher. Dinah was under the cosh in the first part of the game but outplayed her opponent after the queens came off.

Dinah's reward-a round 2 pairing with the No4 seed WGM Valentina Kozlovskaya, a legend of the golden Soviet era and widow of Igor Bondarevsky.

Excellent - she has always been good in those sort of positions.

I should have looked at all the results first...

Ivan Myall draw with someone 370 higher
Ian Reynolds draw with someone 321 higher
Jim Webster draw with someone 372 higher
Unrated and ungraded Hassan Erdogan drew with a 2133. I think I played him many years ago and he was quite good.

And others got good results of course.

The last few moves went missing today! ( at least on Chesbomb and Chess24). For anyone following, they were: 34...Qd7 35 Ba5 Re6 36 Bc3 Kf8 37 Qg7+ Ke8 38 Qg8+

I think that's the kind of thing Caruana was hoping to do with his similarly nice QB today

So, what's the reason for all our underrated seniors then?

"So, what's the reason for all our underrated seniors then? "

Good question! Also unrated seniors like David Bray (ECF180ish), who has a current performance of 2390 in the 65+
