Hebden has drawn. USA have won their match and are currently in clear first place. Clearly England 1 are not going to win now. We do need one more draw (probably from Emms) to hopefully keep us in second place. Plaskett in a horribly passive rook endgame.

Chess 24 is showing it as 4 draws; France lost to Russia 1 who finish on 18/18; St Petersburg and Germany 2 are on 14 with England 1 on 13; other teams might reach 13 too

Nigel Povah finishes with a 7-1 record, and might get a board prize

At 1.5 - 1.5 v. St Petersburg, Stebbings needed to win for team silver medal. A draw would leave them 4th behind Ger II. No pressure then.

Going for it in a level position, Stebbings appears to have lost - utterly lost on the board, though final result shows 0.5 (and 2-2). I say "utterly lost" because, of course, I'm looking at [-9.00] on screen with an engine that knows why. On the board, meanwhile, the position requires plenty of thought. And it's far from clear that Stebbings's opponent would see it was won, not least when a halved match gave St Petersburg all they needed

Plaskett is completely lost, isn't he? Emms should be aiming for a draw but seems to still be trying to win. (That was a bit harsh. Looks like Emms will draw and England 1 will get either second or third depending on the SB tie-break - if that is the tie-break after match points and game points).

EDIT: Actually, the opponent of the Lasker board 4 is holding a draw and looks unlikely to lose, so England 1 likely have already done enough to secure second place.

Two more English medals to report: Keith took gold on his board for 6.5/7 (which was the third best rating performance behind Shabalov & Sveshnikov) to add to his gold in the blitz. Nigel Povah also took gold on his board with a score of 7/8.

Well done to Keith & Nigel; and indeed well done to both England 1 teams for very good performances
