EU Individual Seniors at Drammen, Norway, began today. I was out all day arbiting (and will also tomorrow) so cannot comment on their live game coverage if any.

They are not using chess-results.com but from what I can grasp of the round 2 pairings, the English results today were:

65+ Tony Stebbings and Anthony Ashby had wins; Brian Hewson lost, H. WIlliam Ingham drew.
There are 66 in the field including two GMs (Nona Gaprindashvili being one of them).

50+ 44 in the field, the two English players both won: Gary Clark and Peter Gayson,

Three English players are in action on live boards today, two playing each other.

I just started a thread for this on the Live Games section of the Forum as I thought that might attract more attention.
So please read that post and comment there if you prefer.

Unfortunately Ashby does not feature live as he lost yesterday. Ingham had a second draw and Hewson is on 0/2.

I failed to mention earlier here that the Women's 50+ is a separate tournament but the 65+ women are too few so are in with the men but of course will have separate prizes as always when this happens.

LATER: Clark-Gayson agreed drawn after about 45 minutes, no surprise.

Tony Stebbings has won to join the large chasing group on 2.5 behind sole leader GM Leif Ogaard.
Ingham won and has 2 points; Ashby lost and Hewson still playing when I last looked at the result list on the Norwegian site.

Gayson and Clark kept their powder dry for the battle ahead and are likewise half a point behind the leader GM SImen Agdestein who could be joined by one other player.

Round 4 tomorrow at 2.15pm BST. In the 50+ England's Gary Clark will play the sole leader GM Simen Agdestein.
Peter Gayson, also in the chasing group, plays an FM. Both have White and their games should be live.

In the 65+ Tony Stebbings, also joint second with 2.5/3, will have Black against FM Askell Orn Karason, avoiding Nona Gaprindashvili by one board.

William Ingham is on 2/3 but his game won't be live.

Quite a good day for the English in round 5.
In the 50+ Peter Gayson and Gary Clark both won, but there was an upset as top seed GM Agdestein lost with White.

Tomorrow's round 6 sees Conny Holst (who beat Agdestein) play the only other person on 4.5/5.
Then it's Agdestein (4) v Gayson (4); there is one other player on 4. Gary has 3.5.

In the 65+, GM Leif Ogaard is the only player on 4.5/5 after Nona was beaten. Tony Stebbings had a good win against a different WGM today and tomorrow will have White against Ogaard on top board.

Anthony Ashby after a bad start has fought back to 3/5 and tomorrow he has White against Russian FM Boris Furman, If you are reading this, Anthony, Furman has a very settled and solid repertoire against 1 e4 and 1 d4 but he didn't like meeting 1 c4 last year and I came close to beating him. (He played 1...e6 and 2...d5.)
Brian Hewson is up to 2.5 but William Ingham has stalled and remains on 2 points.

No, I did ask him that during our post-mortem and he said he wasn't related to Semyon Furman.
I've played Boris twice (0.5/2) and he has a bit of English; he came to Hastings one recent year, I think.

More than once, according to his ECF grading history

Tony Stebbings held a good draw against top seed and leader GM Ogaard today. So he is in a big group half point behind.
Anthony Ashby (v Furman) didn't see (or didn't take) my advice to go 1 c4 and played instead 1 e4 and 2 c3 against the Sicilian.
Furman has great results with Black in that line, as I discovered when preparing for him last year. Furman was totally winning not long ago but a great fight-back from -3.64 to -0.68 or thereabouts means Ashby might save it. He has a good chance of reaching R v R+N.

Ashby saved his game, well done! He remains on 50 percent.

Tony Stebbings has Black tomorrow against Vorotnikov, a difficult pairing. If he can get a result there he will be well placed for a medal push in the last two rounds. I should have said yesterday that the WGM he beat is the current Womens 65+ world champion Khmiadashvili, who beat Nona last year.

"Ashby saved his game, well done! He remains on 50 percent."
Tony has 3.5/6, so that's a bit better...

Just home after a hard weekend's arbiting. I couldn't see any of the games from the last rounds but took a peek at the standings.

http://tournamentservice.com/standings. ... akkforbund

Peter Gayson has won bronze in the 50+ championship; congratulations! He was best on tiebreak of the four players on 6/9 and Gary Clark was only half a point behind.

Tony Stebbings also scored 6/9 in the 65+ but with a larger field this was only joint 5th, half a point behind four players on 6.5. He gains 15.6 rating points and Tony Ashby's 5/6 is also a rating gain. Brian Hewson with 4.5/9 has a made a small rating gain while William Ingham has gained 30 points ("only" 4/9 but from an 1819 rating that's very creditable).

The games (or some of them) may be in TWIC tomorrow night.
