Do wish they'd drop these kinds of super shallow engine evaluations - it says processing time 3 seconds and even nowadays that isn't enough for it to mean much! Very hard to ignore though.
Anyway, a fun looking game

Unfortunately Chess24 isn't showing this tournament because their Stockfish evaluations are much more meaningful.MartinCarpenter wrote:Do wish they'd drop these kinds of super shallow engine evaluations - it says processing time 3 seconds and even nowadays that isn't enough for it to mean much! In the 65+ GM Kupreichik is in a spot of bother against Pete Morriss who beat Vasiukov in the World Senior last year.
Houdini preferred 17...a4 to 17...c4 but still likes Pete's game.
John has played the murderous 19 Bd3.
Keith is a bit better after swapping queens.

21 Nh7 looks quite good for John! Better watch quick as this won't last much longer.

True. Mate in 10 after Rg1 says Houdini and opponent down to his last five minutes.Simon Brown wrote:21 Nh7 looks quite good for John! Better watch quick as this won't last much longer.
All over. Sturua is about to win too. Keith doesn't have much.
Pete miscalculated and lost the exchange for a pawn but it may be by no means easy for Kupreichik to win.

Hopefully the time advantage will help, I think he is getting the upper hand at move 28Tim Harding wrote: Keith doesn't have much

Black has blundered a pawn so now it''s business as usual for Keith.Mick Norris wrote:Hopefully the time advantage will help, I think he is getting the upper hand at move 28Tim Harding wrote: Keith doesn't have much
Black could have played 27...Nd3= and after 27,..Nc6 28 Nc5 he had to try 28...Re7 29 Nxb7 Nb4 with counterplay.
Vasiukov has drawn. He's top seed in the 65+ but over 80 years old so hardly the favourite to win.

Nothing, or less than nothing, is often sufficient for Keith as I've found to my cost on many occasionsTim Harding wrote:. Keith doesn't have much.

As long as Nikolaidis maintains concentration and stays fixated on the draw he will get the draw. Arkell needs a super cheapoLawrenceCooper wrote:Nothing, or less than nothing, is often sufficient for Keith as I've found to my cost on many occasionsTim Harding wrote:. Keith doesn't have much.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

Is that a 3 fold repetition (39, 41, 45 if Nikolaidis writes the move Be7 and calls the arbiter)? Just checked, no it isn't.

And he's got it! Nikolaidis has a "senior moment". Game over.Brian Towers wrote:Arkell needs a super cheapo

It wasn't a super cheapo - the black pieces were so badly placed that it was almost impossible for him to get out of the tactics.

Move 29 I assume. It certainly looked like one way traffic from there. I would have been hopeful of Keith winning without that trick though.Brian Towers wrote:And he's got it! Nikolaidis has a "senior moment". Game over.Brian Towers wrote:Arkell needs a super cheapo

Keith will be seeking revenge for his fatal defeat by Petran at Dresden. Good to see Terry coming into contention also.Mick Norris wrote:Round 3 on 2015/05/01

In the 65+ only four players have 100%, and in round 3 it will be:
FM Boris Gruzmann v GM Kupreichik
IM Jan Rooze v IM Nico Schouten
On board 3 Ashby has Black against Vasiukov.

Re: 2015 European Senior Chess Championship
Board 4 is a repeat of the pairing which cost me the world title on tie-break. They were using some sort of sum of opponents scores, and I had played Kalegin, whereas Sturua had played Bruno. In the last game to finish in the whole building Bruno finally won.
Anyway, enough of that. I should be preparing...
