Mark has lost to both John and Keith at this event, but could do them both a big favour if he gets a result against Sturua tomorrow. It is not impossible for all three of the ENG grandmasters to finish in the top three. Big game on board 1 tomorrow!

There is a tie-break system for any place or title in the tournaments. In order:
1. Personal encounter, provided everybody in the tie has met everybody else
2. Bucholz - 1. that is deleteing the lowest scoring opponent.
3. Bucholz.
There are further tie-breaks if necessary.
Has there ever been a World Championship where English players were on boards 1, 2 and 3?
Sveshnikov 6.5 Arkell 7
Hebden 6 Sturua 7
Nunn 6.5 Bischoff 6
Barle 6 Stepovij 5.5.

Buchholz being the tie-break otherwise known as "Sum of Opponents' Scores".

Not quite going to plan. Nunn has drawn, Hebden is lost, Arkell probably level.

Must admit I hadn't seen 46 ... Qf8. Looks like Keith has done all he could do to randomise the position.

Sveshnikov has just blundered and Keith is suddenly winning!

You would have thought 48 Nf5 was the move but Keith had stayed in the game really well.

Indeed he does - well done Keith. So what are the important pairings in the last round.
