Yes, another great result. Was watching Vasiukov-Pritchett. Vasiukov's 2448 rating is pretty impressive for an 81 yr-old, reminding one of Smyslov and Korchnoi playing on into their 80s at GM level. Hope Craig, Keith and co. will still be going strong in the Seniors at 80+...

The on-site engine has less than +1 for white, for what that is worth.

The next Keith challenge is at least trying to look sober in this set of prize giving photos!

Well done to Keith, even if he just missed out on tiebreak. Overall the standard seems to have been quite high.

I guess I'm going to wake up feeling gutted that I didn't get gold, but In the last 2 back to back tournaments just take a look at the list of players I've had to deal with, who are higher rated than me:

Isle of Man:

2 GM Fridman, Daniel GER .........2635 ½
3 GM Hillarp Persson, Tiger SWE ..2555 1
4 GM Short, Nigel D ENG ............2646 ½
5 GM Jones, Gawain C B ENG ......2664 0
6 GM Gupta, Abhijeet IND ..........2640 0
8 GM Granda Zuniga, Julio E .......2674 1
9 GM Adams, Michael ENG ..........2758 0

World Senior:

GM Nunn John D M........2602 ENG 8.0 ½
GM Sturua Zurab .........2523 GEO 8.5 ½
GM Bischoff Klaus ........2504 GER 7.0 1
IM Kalegin Evgenij ........2474 RUS 6.0 1
GM Hebden Mark L .......2540 ENG 7.0 1
GM Sveshnikov Evgeny ...2517 LAT 6.5 1

That's 62% against an average of 2595,which equates to a performance of 2682.

At some point during round 11 I simply ran out of gas, which I guess is a pity because I had my kind of position.

Not only did you not predict, but you mocked me and suggested I was high for my suggestion that Keith was favourite
time for some humble pie :)

Sincere apologies Nick....you called that one right well done.

Just one comment about ratings: I am over the moon to see that FIDE have finally realised that something drastic had to be done in order to bring junior ratings in line, as quickly as possible, with their actual playing strength. Giving juniors a K-factor of 40 means that those of us who play a lot of rated games against juniors will now start to see our ratings normalise.

Because of this, I'm going to put myself on the line here and say that in 6 months time my rating will be a lot more healthy than it is now (2440, for reference, in case anyone digs up this thread next year!)
Took a slight risk there (posted in Sept 2014), but hope 2509 counts as 'a lot more healthy' :P

Seriously though, I think this junior k-factor 40 thing really has begun to slow down the prevalent rating deflation just in time, before the ripple hit the very top players, and it doesn't seem to have resulted in a plethora of crazily over-rated kids. One or 2 certainly, but that will self-correct.
