ERRORS IN PUBLISHED GAMES IN THE BRITISH SENIORS

Post by Ken Norman » Tue Jul 29, 2014 9:54 am

The PGN game scores for the British Seniors published on the British Championship website contain a number of attribution errors.

Having watched the round 2 games on the website I have noticed the following mistakes.

The game listed as Milnes v Parsonage is in fact De Coverly v Timson.

Willetts v Emerson is in fact Milnes v Parsonage

And I believe the score given as De Coverly v Timson is Willetts v Emerson.

There are also errors in Round 1.

The game between Rudy van Kemenade and Geoff James was a draw. Yet the game published on the website is a 36 move win for White.

Clearly there are probably a great many other mistakes in the database of British Seniors games. These errors obviously make this database worthless.

Thanks, Ken. I've corrected the errors in the round 1 games' PGN file - van Kemenade-James and Shephard-McKerracher were the wrong way round.

The games in the round 2 PGN file in my DropBox are already the right way round; we got an early alert that the live boards were broadcasting the wrong games.

A game starting 1. f4 Nf6 2. Nf3 d5 3. e3 is rather more likely to be by Tony Milnes.

The games in the pgn file are correct as far as I am aware, certainly my game is. The live transmission was incorrectly labelled.

Roger .

The above is your round 2 game?

The long game that was broadcast as De Coverly v Timson was in fact Milnes v Parsonage?

So it would appear that the names on the live games cannot be trusted.

I wonder if this problem also affects the British Championship.

Yes.

As far as is known, the Championship is correct. I wouldn't vouch for the morning events, but perhaps the participants are checking these.

The DGT board apparently malfunctioned during my final round game, with move 24 onwards being incorrect. This incorrect score also appears in the PGN file. I sent a copy of the correct score to the ECF office, and received a reply stating that it would be forwarded to the people who are able to do something about it.
