European Seniors Team Championship-Sibenik, Croatia

Post by Ken Norman » Wed Feb 19, 2014 9:14 pm

They are obviously not very good are geography in Croatia.

So far four teams from Austria have entered the European Seniors Team Championship.

However when you look at the team composition page next to each Austrian team is the flag of Australia!!

Probably just a ruse. Hornblower sometimes ran up flag of convenience to confuse the French & Spanish.
They will show their true colours when they are ready for action.

First England result. Stewart Reuben has drawn with Kanko.

A good result. Kanko used to play for Finland in the Olympiad.

Paul has a tough pairing against GM Westerinen.

Today, England 1 v. Scotland 1 and England 2 v. Scotland 2 (What a coincidence, as James Plaskett would say.)

Chess results.com is saying that Anthony Stebbings (a 2302 FM) got that draw and has 5/6 on board one including a win over an Italian GM in round 2. England doing well, but the teams above them are packed with GMs and IMs.

Stebbings drew in round 1 with Pekka KAUKO.

Stewart Reuben drew in round 1 with Ilkka KANKO.

Stebbings looks like he has a reasonable chance of an IM norm - I make it that he needs 2/3 with his last two opponents to average 2290 or so and one of them to be an IM.

Oops. I was only looking at the results for England 1. I was wondering why I couldn't see Stewart Reuben there, and now I see that there is an England 2 team.

All the best to our teams and in particular our top board in England 1 who (I believe) needs to win for an IM norm.

I see some of the teams are showing all draws at the start of the round. Are these draws agreed beforehand ?
