Probably agreed draws, yes. England match still going at 1-1, with Stebbings trying to get something from 2B vs BN with 3P on queenside - not sure much progress is possible - and Quinn is a pawn down on board 2.

Stebbings may have trapped the Knight now !

I was just thinking that. Lots of tantalising possibilities...

No, I think the Knight gets away.

Well, he has won the a7 pawn at least now (but does White's bishop get trapped?). Might we see the famous 2B vs N ending??

I think it is winning now (after 51.Bxa7). I was seeing phantoms. Need to check the tablebases! Ack. Drawn, apparently. (And I really should know that without having to look it up!)

Bizarrely, in the final position, 55...Bf1 draws for Black, but Black chose to resign instead!! (If you believe the result transmitted).

Result is often put up wrong, so we'll have to wait.

Agreed. It would be bizarre for someone rated 2178 to not know how to draw that, though stranger things have happened...NickFaulks wrote:Result is often put up wrong, so we'll have to wait.

That's good news. England 1 finish 8th, above their seeding of 14th. That looks to be one of the best performances by an England team for some time. The icing on the cake would be confirmation of that IM norm. (If they award board medals, Stebbings may also have a medal of some sort).
