Irish FM Andrew Smith won the 65+ with 6/7. He lost a hard game in round 6 to Scottish IM Craig Pritchett (who finished second) but beat top seed FM Terry Chapman in the last round.
This follows Andrew's "warm-up" on board 2 for Ireland in the World Senior Teams last month, where he beat Finnish GM Heikki Westerinen with Black.
So Hull was no fluke, though Andrew had some luck when Paul Hutchinson gifted him half a point with a brain-freeze at the end of a long game in round 5.
