England 50+ team win 2.5-1.5 whilst the USA draw 2-2 with Hungary. In the 65+ Germany 2 appear to have beaten Germany 1 to guarantee England the gold medals with a round to spare.

Although something odd appears to have happened in the England-Switzerland match in the 65+. No games showing on the live game website although the results were showing as 3-1 to England from very early in the session with John Nunn being the loser!

I read somewhere that the Swiss had 3 positive Covid cases and that John Nunn decided not to face the one allegedly non Covid case.

I counted eight defaults in todays round excluding John Nunn.

It would appear there is a serious outbreak of Covid in Acqui Terme.

You don't need to be a maths expert to assess the probability of the other player having Covid... Anyway, the match was already won.

England beat Italy 2.5-1.5. Mickey ground out another win from what looked like a drawn position.
Hope he isn't using up any of the magic dust that will be needed in India.
Not one of the five of us has ever been world champion in any category, despite three of us coming close, so I don't care how much magic dust is required to do the job this time :P

Good luck Keith, we're all rooting for you all

We're not going to win in India, so winning this is a bigger deal

Cheers Mick and thanks for all the support. The 65+ team have done it so hopefully us junior seniors can follow in their footsteps...

Of course we can win in India.

But that can wait. Best wishes to all five for completing the job in Italy first.

1 GM Nunn John D M 2568 ENG 400017 1 1 ½ 1 1 1 1 - 6,5 8 2297

Isnt that about a 2700 rating performance?

Not too shabby for a 67 year old!

chess results for all the English players has 2719 for John, not sure that's accurate

As mentioned before, such TPRs are essentially undefined and meaningless.

Yes, the RPs in Chessresults.com are meaningless. For example, if Magnus Carlsen began some big Open by beating a 1500 ( not that that's very likely!) and played the rest of the 10 round event at, say, 2900 level, then, according to Chessresults.com, the round 1 win would knock about 100 points off his performance rating, and bring it down to about 2800.

The more useful way to define a TPR would be "the rating of someone for whom this performance would give a W-We of 0", but it's a bit harder to calculate.
