The more useful way to define a TPR would be "the rating of someone for whom this performance would give a W-We of 0", but it's a bit harder to calculate.
Even that is obviously useless at 100% and loses value as you approach 100%. It certainly isn't an unbiased estimator.
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a QR code stamped on a human face — forever.

The linear approximation is another approach. Add up all the ratings, add 400 times the excess of wins over losses and divide by the count of games. It can be refined by imposing a cutoff where players more than x points above or below count as player rating +/- x. Suitable values for x might be 400, 350 or 320.

I see the over 50's England 1 team have now won their match and the over50's Team Senior World Championship. With the over65 Team winning yesterday England now have two World Championship winning Teams.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE PLAYERS IN BOTH TEAMS.

Where is the like button?

Congratulations also to the Director, Malcolm Pein, and to the Managers, Stewart Reuben and Nigel Povah. The last named is now a gold medallist himself.

Much of chess administration consists of lots of hard work and drudgery, and very little recognition and reward.

But then, just occasionally, along comes a day like this that makes it all worthwhile.

Yes. Well done all! Including members of the other ENG teams of course.

On Twitter, Natasha Regan has reported that the England Women's Team are the World Women's Senior 50+ Champions, so it's actually TRIPLE GOLD.

The Twittersphere, which has been careful to take nothing for granted before today, is now going mad, not surprisingly.

That should be cheap to organise for the 65+ team who no doubt have their free bus passes.

Well done to all the players and organisers.

There was also an individual victory over a former world champion by one of the English players.

If you mean my last game, Justin, she was already World Champion when I was just 1 year old!

I played another World Champion in Jon Arnason, but that game was a draw.

A slight downer, for me anyway, was that they made a mess of my gold medal for player 5, accidentally awarding me bronze instead, but this is in the process of being corrected. So 4 of us managed individual gold, which I guess doesn't happen too often.

More than one victory if you include former senior world champions.
