We need to win both of the remaining matches and hope someone slips up, or score heavily and pass Armenia on board count. There are also individual board medals to play for, as consolation prizes.

I looked at your game a little between moves 35 and 55, thought it was generally level, and thought you'd find a way to win as usual :D

Good luck tomorrow, I recollect you've played Tischbierek before

Hi Mick, The opening didn't go very well, but eventually I got a small endgame edge after which it was never easy for him in practice.

We knew before the match that our Greek opponents were vastly under-rated just by looking at their games. Someone gave the typical explanation that there are lots of ludicrously under-rated kids in Athens stealing all their points!

My opponent, for example, was performing at 340 points above his relatively low Elo. In addition I knew that even were I to win, doing so would slice 14 points off my performance ( relevant for board medals) - so a tough day at the office!

According to my calculations 6th seeded England have taken Silver in the 65+, one match point behind Russia. Congratulations, boys!

It looks to me as though we ended up with one team Silver (as mentioned by Keith) and four individual medals, two of them Gold.

England Seniors 5 - ECF Chief Executive 0

Congratulations to all concerned.

That's amazing. Great result by the 65+ team.

Would the 50+ team have got bronze if they had won in the final round? And the result hinged on the game by John Emms (as there were quick draws on the top two boards and Chris Ward was level) and Emms was losing (on move 24) then winning (on move 29) and then blundered into a perpetual on move 31? Sounds exciting! :D

Brian V, what is your source please?

Brian H does not appear in the list at http://chess-results.com/tnr426179.aspx ... 81&flag=30. That is because he only played 6 games whereas, according to Chess-Results, the minimum was 7.
