He bought numerous chess books and a computer chess program. He finally gave up on chess around 1997, saying: "I found that I don't have any particular talent for chess. I hate to admit it, but that's a fact." Carter's National Security Advisor, Zbigniew Brzeinski, was an avid chess player, who played Menachem Begin at Camp David.-

Don't those people ever get anything right?

Not only was Jimmy Carter, a chess player but he also made a Staunton style chess set from exotic wood. He designed and carved the set, a photo of which is the frontispiece of a 2018 58 page booklet of a selection of sets by an American collector in Texas.

Should have got 2nd term as US President but problems in middle east cost him big time

Well that and the economy (which was largely not his fault) And we now know that dubious things went on between his political opponents and the same Iranian regime that they were supposed to be sworn enemies of.
