The sad news has been reported that the Romanian Grandmaster Constantin Ionescu passed away on 31st July 2024 at the age of 65.
Constantin was born on 12th September 1958 in Brasov, Romania.
He was awarded the FIDE International Master title in 1983 and in 1988 he received the FIDE Grandmaster title.
In 1985, Constantin won the World Team Championship individual bronze medal and in 1999 won the Romanian Chess Championship.
Overall, Constantin won eight individual Romanian Chess Championship medals and played for Romania in the Chess Olympiads between 1986 and 2000.
He achieved many individual chess tournament successes, winning or shared the first places, among others in Manresa 1985, Bucharest 1993, Balatonbereny 1996 and in Bucharest again in 2002.

He died on the same day as Krum Georgiev, and at almost exactly the same age.
