ISTR that Gazza showed an early example of his occasional gamesmanship in that encounter (contemporary chess magazines will have accounts)

I don't think Kasparov was showing gamesmanship in his dispute against Georgiev at the 1980 Malta Olympiad. Although I didn't see the actual incident, I was watching as the dispute blew up - they were making a lot of noise and Australia was playing nearby. It was clear that Kasparov genuinely believed that Georgiev had touched the d6 pawn. Whether this happened on the way through to capturing on e6, or whether Georgiev accidentally picked up the wrong pawn, or whether Kasparov was wrong, I think we'll never know. In case the arbiters' decision was correct as there seemed to be no witnesses, not even teammates.
