I am sorry to inform you that Derek Northage passed away recently.
Derek played for Kidsgrove Chess Club (Staffordshire) for many years, playing his last competitive game in late March.
He had played chess for over 80 years and continued to play competitive chess well into his 90s.
Derek had also previously played for Newcastle-under-Lyme Chess Club.

For the short time I played at Kidsgrove, Derek was one of the pleasures to see.
As dangerous as he was delightful, a charming quietly well-mannered, well-liked gent.
Always sad to hear such good eggs no longer exist, but I have only cheery memories of him.
