I didn't know that. It may be similar to Garry Kasparov's change. He was originally Weinstein. But when his parents were divorced, he and his mother went to live with his maternal grandparents and took the name Kasparov.

Andras was a somewhat argumentative person, but could still be good company as well as a very strong player.

Nick fun game! By the way did you mean Carl Plasa -I beat him a few times as a Junior in school matches although he was a very promising player- haven’t seen him about fir a while?

Yes, I was not sure how to spell either forename or surname - it's all a long time ago.
