The sad news has been reported that Polish Correspondence Chess Grandmaster Stefan Brzozka died yesterday (9th January 2023) at the age of 91, in Czestochowa, Poland.
Stefan was born on 5th October 1931 in Radomsko, Poland.
Originally, Stefan played over the board chess.
From 1953 to 1966, he played eleven times in the Polish Chess Championships finals. He played for Poland in the World Student Team Chess Championships of 1955 and 1956.
Stefan played for Poland in the European Team Chess Championship preliminaries of 1957 and 1961.
He also played for Poland in the 1958 Chess Olympiad.
Stefan won the Polish Team Chess Championship four times (1958, 1968, 1970, 1974) and once won the Polish Team Fast Chess Championship in 1968.
In 1966, Stefan won the Polish Correspondence Chess Championship. In 1985, he was awarded the title of Correspondence Chess Grandmaster.
He also played in the 16th World Correspondence Chess Championship between 1999 and 2004.
