I am sorry to inform you that Chris Priest has died at the age of 72 after a long illness.
Chris was a member of the Hampshire chess community for many years.
He played for several clubs in the Southampton League, finishing up at the Hamble club, near his home. He also played for Gosport in the Portsmouth League.
Chris joined the committee of Hampshire Chess Association in 2012. Over the course of the next ten years, he held many offices on the committee, including two stints as President and numerous times as delegate to other chess bodies.
A private service took place on the 14th December. The crematorium service will take place at Southampton Crematorium on Friday 23rd December 2022, at 11.30am.

Chris was a member of Redhill (Surrey) as a junior, but left when he left school. He played at the top end of the first team then. I did not see him again until I was arbiter at the Hampshire weekend congress about 50 years later and thought he looked vaguely familiar! It was a good opportunity to catch up after so many years. He was always enthusiastic and liked to be involved, but left the HCA committee when his health deteriorated.

That's sad news, I played Chris in a county match at Birmingham University in 2004, he seemed like a nice guy
