Michael J Dymond passed away in June 2022.

A very considered and personal obituary by Michael March on his good friend, the late Michael J Dymond who sadly passed away on the third weekend of June 2022 aged 81. Mike Dymond played for Portsmouth Chess Club and Hampshire in the 1960’s and 70’s and was Hampshire Individual Chess Champion in 1966.

Mike's win of the Hampshire Individual Championship for 1966 (played in 1965) was covered in the Hampshire Bulletin by John Grant. His report included 90% of the games played.

I have recently added an article on this tournament to the Hampshire Chess History website, including the games. There were some other notable Hampshire players in the tournament including four other previous / future champions and a number of HCA Officers. Gerald Bennet was in both categories and would have been 16 at the time of the tournament.
