Frank Carrothers

I am sorry to report that Frank Carrothers of Fruithill Chess Club in Northern Ireland, passed away on 9th April 2022.
Frank originally played for Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) chess club in Belfast.
When the RVH club closed, he moved with the rump of the RVH members to the Fruithill club to continue playing.
Pat McKillens posted this tribute:
"6 or 7 years ago, Nigel Short played a simul in Belfast and Frank had him on the ropes for most of it but eventually lost. However, the next day I drove Nigel down to Bunratty and he said that Frank's game was the best game of the evening by a mile and also one of the best simul games he had played in a long long time. I told Frank this when I next saw him, biggest smile I'd ever seen on his face."
