Quite a big one here - top former Yugoslav GM who was the first ever World Junior Champion and a former Candidate.

Another of Fischer's opponents gone.

Indeed a victor over Bobby; Santiago 1959 - an early example of Bobby's struggles against the Winawer.

Though his win over RJF on the Black side of a Ruy at Havana in 1965 was arguably even more impressive.

(I assume at least some here will be aware of the story of how he was close to his greatest ever tournament triumph there, but blew it)

I never understood what Bobby was up to in that Havana game.

An example of his occasional tentativeness in the Spanish (most flagrantly on display in the second match against Spassky).

Ah yes

A happier tournament for Ivkov was Santiago, where he came first equal with Pachman, ahead of the young Fischer.

Ah yes
Had he won that, he would have been the overall victor with a round to spare. In the event he lost his last game (White v Robatsch) too.

Thanks Matt for informing us. Very sad news about Borislav. Yet another Serbian Grandmaster passes away.
Borislav was a World Championship candidate in 1965, and played in four more Interzonal tournaments, in 1967, 1970, 1973 and 1979.
He was a three-time Yugoslav Champion (1958 joint, 1963 joint, 1972) and was the first World Junior Champion in 1951.
Borislav represented Yugoslavia 12 times in Olympiad competition, from 1956 to 1980, and six times in European Team Championships.
For more than 15 years from the mid-1950s, he was the second-ranking Yugoslav player, after Svetozar Gligoric.
Borislav was also an International Arbiter and wrote an autobiography, My 60 Years in Chess.
RIP

Just checked back on that 1951 World Junior (U-20) Championship. Ivkov 1st 9.5 and our own Malcolm Barker 8 was 2nd. Then Peter A Harris (ENG) tied 4th with Bent Larsen(!) on 6.5. Fridrik Olaffson further down the field.
