I am sorry to report that Ignacio Perez died on 11th January 2022 at the age of 54, after a long illness.
Ignacio was born in Cuba on 2nd February 1967.
He became a regular at the famed Havana Chess Club and was training partners with many strong players including GM Julio Becerra and IM Blas Lugo.
Ignacio moved to Seattle, Washington, USA in the 1990s.
He was two-time Washington state champion in 2007 and 2013 over luminaries such as Viktors Pupols.
Ignacio was also the reigning Washington Senior Champion and represented the state in two Senior Tournament of Champions.
