Re: IM Abram Iosifovich Khasin
Passed away within days of his 99th birthday - I had been hopeful he would join Averbakh in reaching his century.
His story is remarkable - as a young man he lost both his legs in WW2. Sosonko has written a terrific account of his life recently.

Yes, it's sad he did not manage 100 years, but given his earlier health problems, 98 is remarkable. His highest ICCF rating was 2655, and he had dropped slightly to 2650 in 2000, when he stopped playing CC. Anything over 2600 has always put you in the top few in the world in CC, and of course he was doing it without Stockfish etc.

Not sure if it is in a book (yet)
I do believe it is floating around the web, though (though quite possibly only in Russian, so you may need to translate)

Hi John. Hope all is well.
I think I know which site or sites it is on. It is not only in Russian but you will need to translate. I'll post some other addresses of websites that I use.
I have sadly picked up over 15 items of sad news on the same websites.
Although I have picked up lots of good useful information on other sites which I'll gradually post in various categories.
I'll send the information to you via PM over the next few days.
I have a tough match away at Preston tonight on top board, junior club tomorrow night and a number of long days at work.
