I am sorry to report that Norwegian International Master Knut Joran Helmers died on 15th April 2021.
Knut was born in Oslo, Norway on the 7th February 1957.
He won the Junior National Championships in 1972, after a play-off.
Knut won the Norwegian championship in 1976 and 1977.
In 1979, Knut was awarded the IM title and in 1981 won the Nordic Championships in Reykjavik, Iceland.
He also played on top board for Norway in five Chess Olympiads 1976, 1978, 1980, 1982 and 1984.

Shame. I played him once or twice. Sweet guy.
Any insight to the cause of his death?

Hi James.
According to a website that I use, he died as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage.

I presume you are aware of a few prominent players who have died recently Simon?

Hi Matt. Yes I've picked up about half a dozen. I believe a couple might have played in the 4NCL aswell and one with links to Bobby Fischer.
Sorry for not posting them yet as I was still coming to terms with a sudden death at a fairly young age of a club colleague and friend.
I will try to post them all this evening.

You could always mention your club colleague in this section, if that makes you feel better.
