I am sorry to report that Bob Steel passed away suddenly in the middle of August 2020, at the age of 65.
He died at his home in Downton, near Salisbury, Wiltshire.
Bob, also known as Rob was the former Chair of Sutton and Croydon Green Party and a retired teacher.
He was also an excellent chess player.
Bob once said "Chess players are like Green voters, they think things through. "
Bob played one of the top boards at Southampton University when he was a student. He won a crucial match with a pretty combination of moves that resulted in his university team winning the Southampton League.
His passing was reported on Sunday 22nd November 2020 on the Croydon, Sutton and Surrey Greens website along with a few pictures and some interesting anecdotes along with a chess tournament he held.

Was this RW Steel, who I think played for Wallington. I played him in Surrey League matches in 1977 and 1980.
