It is with great sadness that I have to inform you of the death of Michael (Mike) Royle, a clubmate and friend.
Mike passed away peacefully from AML at his home in Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, on Thursday 3rd September 2020, aged 89 years.
He was a onetime keen member of Poulton Bridge Club, he then joined Poulton-le-Fylde Chess Club.
He wasn't the strongest of players, however he enjoyed playing everyone at the club, despite losing most games.
Mike had a great sense of humour and was very kind. He regularly looked after and played our juniors.
Although he didn't want to play league matches or congresses, he did enjoy playing in the Standardplay Club Open and Rapidplay Open tournaments.
Sadly, contact was lost before the pandemic and I only learned of his passing from our Secretary, who had received a phonecall from his wife, last week.
A tribute was posted in the Blackpool Gazette dated 8th September 2020.
He will be forever missed.
RIP
