I am sorry to inform you that John Porter of De La Beche Chess Club, West Wales, passed away on 5th May, after a long illness.
John originally played with his son Stuart at Hendrefoilan Chess Club, where he became Treasurer.
In 1993, John was elected Vice President of the West Wales Chess League. In 2003, John became Treasurer of the League, which he held for 14 years and was second longest serving member of the position.
John was also heavily involved in coaching juniors at Hendrefoilan School.
There is a lengthy tribute by teammate and friend, Ken Huntley posted on the Welsh Chess Union website in the Obituaries Section, dated 11th May.
