Jim Wiseman

Post by Simon Rogers » Sun May 02, 2021 5:42 pm

I am sorry to inform you that Jim Wiseman has died after a long illness on the 28th April.
Jim was a stalwart of Atticus Chess Club.
He played for a number of their teams in the Merseyside Chess Association League and the Wirral League.
The season before the pandemic, he played 48 Standard play games and also over the years played in many congresses across the North of England, including Scarborough, Preston, Huddersfield, Heywood and Blackpool.
He was known as a fearless attacking player. As white he played the King's Gambit and black played the Latvian Gambit. As a result, he drew very few games.
One of his rare draws came against Boris Spassky in a simul back in 1966, which was played in Liverpool.
There is an excellent and lengthy tribute from his teammate and close friend Tom Webb dated 28th April on the Atticus Chess Club website.
